Black Sash to Host Inaugural Human Rights Awards & Gala Dinner

Event date

As part of our 70th anniversary celebrations, Black Sash is thrilled to announce the very first Human Rights Awards and Gala Dinner, taking place on Thursday, 13 November 2025, in Cape Town.

For 70 years, Black Sash has walked alongside communities across South Africa, standing up for dignity, equality, and justice.

This historic event will shine a spotlight on the heroes of today – individuals, youth leaders, corporates, CSI initiatives, and organisations whose courage and commitment are reshaping the human rights landscape in our country.

The Black Sash Human Rights Awards will honour the resilience of grassroots activists, the innovation of young leaders, the solidarity of businesses, and the lifetime contributions of those who have given everything to democracy and social justice.

The Gala Dinner will be more than a celebration – it will be a night of storytelling, reflection, and inspiration, bringing together allies, supporters, and partners to mark this milestone moment in South Africa’s journey towards equality.

Together, let’s honour the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future of human rights in South Africa.
