Universal Basic Income Coalition

advocating for the realisation of a “universal basic income”

Formed in March 2023, the Universal Basic Income Coalition (UBIC) a grouping of South African civil society organisations whose primary objective is the implementation of a progressive and well-designed Universal Basic Income as a necessary mechanism for realising fundamental socio-economic rights in South Africa.

The formation of the UBIC builds on this long history of advocacy for the realisation of the right to social security in South Africa. Many of the individuals and organisations in the Coalition have been active members of this community since its inception.
